Football Recap: Montgomery Bears vs. Mt. Pleasant Tigers

Montgomery and Mt. Pleasant squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Montgomery had to settle for second. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Despite 200 more yards than the Tigers, the Bears couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Jack Merryman threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Luke Piro was his top target, picking up 215 receiving yards and a pair of scores. On the ground, Keldrid Ben rushed for 172 yards and a pair of TDs.

Among those leading the charge was Carter Cook, who threw for 326 yards and two TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Mt. Pleasant, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-6.

Montgomery does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will square off against South Oak Cliff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least 31 points in their last eight games.
