Basketball Recap: Galt Warriors vs. Liberty Ranch Hawks
The Galt Warriors lost against the Liberty Ranch Hawks back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Galt was outmatched by the Hawks at home and fell 60-21. Galt was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-3.
Despite the loss, Galt still got an impressive performance from Akayla-Joy Gunter, who scored 11 points. That was a full 52.4% of Galt's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bricelina Cortez was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Liberty Ranch found their leader in underclassman Haley Smith, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 21 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Felix, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Galt's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-21. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Liberty Ranch, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Galt will take on the Wolverine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberty Ranch, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
