Basketball Recap: East Nicolaus' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

East Nicolaus lost against Weed back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The game between the East Nicolaus Spartans and the Weed Cougars didn't end well, with the East Nicolaus Spartans falling 47-31. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Cougars are ranked 159th).

East Nicolaus lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rylee Gillespie, who posted 14 points. Gillespie has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

East Nicolaus moved to 11-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Weed, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

East Nicolaus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-49 loss against Trinity on the 21st. Weed has also already played their next matchup, a 52-32 defeat against Del Norte on the 21st.
