Softball Recap: Polo Takes a Loss

Polo extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-5. They lost 15-0 to the South Harrison Bulldogs. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for South Harrison, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For South Harrison's part, Rory Fitzgerald made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Fitzgerald has posted since back in September of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexi Hunter, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. Bailey Barnett was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs.

Looking ahead, Polo will head out on the road to take on Brookfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Harrison, they will be playing at home against North Platte at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
