Basketball Recap: Cruz Valdez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Smoky Hill over Broomfield + How To Watch

Smoky Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 52-45 to the Broomfield Eagles.

Several Buffaloes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cruz Valdez, who posted 12 points and six boards. Valdez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Daniel Boyd was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Caleb Dunn produced another solid effort dropping a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds for Broomfield. Those 22 points gave Dunn a new career-high. Braylon Tshibanda also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Smoky Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Broomfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Smoky Hill will take on Spring Valley in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffaloes will be up against the Grizzlies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Broomfield and La Cueva will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 59 points per game this season.
