Basketball Recap: Aspire Langston Hughes Academy Comes Up Short

Aspire Langston Hughes Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 59-10 loss at the hands of the Vista del Lago Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1083rd, while the Eagles are ranked 355th).

Leading Vista del Lago to victory were Kelsey Brooks and Leila Tureck. Brooks went 6 for 12 on her way to 14 points and five assists, while Tureck shot 4-for-7 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. That's the most points Brooks has posted since back in December of 2023. Makenna Cassidy was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

Aspire Langston Hughes Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Vista del Lago, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Aspire Langston Hughes Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-19 loss against Marysville on the 20th. As for Vista del Lago, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-35 defeat against Whitney on the 20th.
