Basketball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Freedom

Freedom extended their home winning streak to six games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Eve Monzon. The Freedom Falcons claimed a resounding 64-25 victory over the Rio Vista Rams thanks in part to Monzon, who went 12 for 18 on her way to 29 points. Those 29 points gave her a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Anisa Blalock, who posted 11 points in addition to six boards and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Rio Vista lost on Thursday, don't look at Samiah Holley. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals. Another player making a difference was Janessa McDowell, who put up ten boards and six blocks.

Freedom is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Rio Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Freedom didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-39 win against Manteca on the 21st. As for Rio Vista, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lindhurst at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
