Basketball Recap: Roxborough Comes Up Short

In Friday's Canine Competition, Roxborough had to take the L. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 37-36 to the Paul Robeson Huskies. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by just one point.

Roxborough's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylah Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Holmes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played dating back to last season. Saniyah Cann was another key player, putting up 12 points.

It was another big night for Ashley Robinson, who posted 30 points for Paul Robeson. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Paul Robeson's points.

Roxborough has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.6 points per game. As for Paul Robeson, their record now sits at 11-6.

When Roxborough and Paul Robeson next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Roxborough will try to stop Samuel Fels' five-game winning streak when the meet at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Roxborough will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Similarly, Paul Robeson will take on Mariana Bracetti Academy and their eight-game winning streak at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
