Basketball Recap: Desert Comes Up Short

Desert lost against Bishop Union back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Desert Scorpions lost to the Bishop Union Broncos on the road by a 57-42 margin. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 743rd, while the Broncos are ranked 339th).

Despite the loss, Desert still got an impressive performance from Destiny Hart, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds. Hart is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Keira Gamboa, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Desert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Kristin Allen was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 15 on her way to 25 points in addition to five boards and four steals for Bishop Union. That makes it five consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Bishop Union's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tannyr Ludwick, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points and six rebounds.

Desert's record is now 10-6. As for Bishop Union, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert will face off against Mammoth at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. As for Bishop Union, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against California City at 5:30 p.m. Bishop Union's defense has only allowed 26.8 points per game this season, so California City's offense will have their work cut out for them.
