Basketball Recap: Makanani Guy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mission College Prep over Orcutt Academy

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mission College Prep can now relate to. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orcutt Academy Spartans. The Royals have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Mission College Prep lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Makanani Guy, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gwen Nelson, who went 6-for-13 en route to 15 points.

Elizabeth Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Orcutt Academy, dropping a double-double with 29 points and 18 boards. Johnson's evening made it 34 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Rylie Allen, who posted four points and six rebounds.

Mission College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Orcutt Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.

Mission College Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Orcutt Academy, they will head out to face off against Sierra Pacific at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a six-game winning streak alive.
