Softball Recap: Gordon Central Comes Up Short

Gordon Central had lost 21 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-19 to make it 22. They lost 20-9 to the Coosa Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 back in August.

As for Coosa, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-12. That looming 20-9 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Coosa's part, Dixie Orebaugh and Genna Nicholson did most of the damage at the plate: Orebaugh got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Nicholson went 4-for-5 with six RBI and two stolen bases. Those six RBI gave Nicholson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelynn Shaffer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gordon Central will square off against Gordon Lee at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coosa, they will challenge Rome at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
