Basketball Recap: Sutter Takes a Loss

Sutter lost against Rio Linda back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sutter Huskies fell to the Rio Linda Knights 53-49.

Despite the loss, Sutter still got an impressive performance from Torrence Harter, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 11 boards, and ten blocks. Harter has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 55 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alaina Davis, who posted five points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sutter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Rio Linda's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Grant led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of LaRay Mitchell, who put up 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Sutter's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Rio Linda, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sutter will take on Destiny Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rio Linda, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mira Loma at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Rio Linda's favor as the squad sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Mira Loma has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road.
