Football Game Preview: Valencia Jaguars vs. Chaparral Lobos

The Valencia Jaguars will head out to face off against the Chaparral Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, Valencia took a blow against Portales, falling 51-14. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Chaparral had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 27-16 win over the Monarchs.

A big part of Chaparral's victory came down to the chemistry between Israel Nieto and his top target Raul Lopez. Nieto rushed for 62 yards and one TD on only eight carries while Lopez gained 149 total yards and a touchdown.

Chaparral was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 174 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Chaparral didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tyvin Howard and Saul Contreras.

Valencia's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Chaparral, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Valencia was able to grind out a solid victory over Chaparral in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 52-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
