Basketball Recap: Riley Rosales' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shasta over Chico

Shasta suffered their closest defeat since December 18, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Chico Panthers by a score of 47-44. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 49-47.

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Rosales, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Cali Soule, who earned seven points.

It was another big night for Josie Carlos, who went 5 for 10 en route to 18 points and six steals for Chico. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carlos has scored at least a third of Chico's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Solano, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Shasta's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Chico, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6.

Shasta and Chico should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Shasta will challenge Red Bluff at 6:30 p.m. on Friday up 512 places (83 vs. 595). Shasta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season. Similarly, Chico (ranked 110th) will meet Enterprise (ranked 383rd) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
