Softball Recap: Smoky Hill Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Smoky Hill extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-10. They lost 15-1 to the Cherokee Trail Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buffaloes of the 13-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Smoky Hill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellen Paris, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Cherokee Trail, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Cherokee Trail's side, Leera Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Davis was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and three runs.

In other batting news, Tayah Burton was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Abby Anderson, who went 1-for-2 with three runs.

Smoky Hill wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-5 win against Mullen on the 20th. As for Cherokee Trail, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-0 victory against Cherry Creek on the 20th.
