Jackson has gone a perfect 6-0 against Luella recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Jackson sitting on four straight victories and Luella on six.
On Monday, Jackson made easy work of Rutland and carried off a 16-5 win.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Luella challenged Stephenson on Monday. The Lions blew past the Jaguars 17-4. Considering the Lions have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Dennis and Arvis Croll made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Dennis struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Croll pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dennis also tossed a walk, which is notable because Luella is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 9-12 otherwise. At the plate, Dennis went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Croll went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. Those five runs gave Croll a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jesse Jenkins and Jayden Davis did most of the damage at the plate: Jenkins went 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Davis went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Jenkins is becoming a predictor of Luella's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jordan Reliford, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Luella kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.4.
Jackson's victory bumped their record up to 12-15. As for Luella, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Jackson got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 against Luella by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
