Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Snags Tenth Win in Last 11 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Polytechnic rose to the challenge on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Shalhevet Firehawks as they made off with a 66-44 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Polytechnic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Areni Ohanian, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Ohanian is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Scholze, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 31 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Polytechnic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points over those games. As for Shalhevet, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.

Coming up, Polytechnic will square off against Marina at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shalhevet does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
