Baseball Recap: Hersey Comes Up Short

Hersey had lost seven straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 9-22 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Cary-Grove Trojans by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Huskies' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Cary-Grove, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-19. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch.

For Cary-Grove's part, Braedan Mendro tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Mendro has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cary-Grove's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Oskar Freund, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hersey will welcome Glenbrook South at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Cary-Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glenbrook North at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
