It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Incarnate Word Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lutheran Cougars 6-5. The win was some much needed relief for the Red Knights as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Layla Portis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Lauryn Walker was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Brannam, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
