Softball Recap: Murray County Comes Up Short

Murray County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Monday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Cartersville Hurricanes, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Friday.

As for Cartersville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average this season.

For Cartersville's part, Presley Crabbe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Crabbe has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lakiaya Banks, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September of 2024. Kinsey Woodard was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Murray County will take on Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cartersville, they will challenge Woodland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
