Shawnee Mission East took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They skirted past the Olathe Northwest Ravens 31-28. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jack Reeves was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 183 yards and one score while picking up 11.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 106 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 83-yard run. Thomas Vanice was another key rusher, rushing for 79 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Henry Stiglic, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Olathe Northwest lost, don't look at Bryce Randall. Despite the final result, he rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.

Shawnee Mission East wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 41-21 victory against Seaman on the 12th. As for Olathe Northwest, they have also already played their next contest, a 34-7 win against Garden City on the 12th.
