Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Monroe Area walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Douglass Astros a 24-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Purple Hurricanes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Monroe Area has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Douglass, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Monroe Area beat the Astros by a score of 17-0 later that day.
