Basketball Recap: Mahanoy Area Comes Up Short

Mahanoy Area lost against Williams Valley back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 38-37 to the Williams Valley Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Golden Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while the Vikings are ranked 134th).

Mahanoy Area's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Felicia Bro, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Connolly, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Mahanoy Area and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for Williams Valley, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mahanoy Area has already played their next match, a 49-18 victory against Jim Thorpe on the 25th. Williams Valley has also already played their next contest (against Nativity BVM), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
