Salesian College Preparatory had won three straight games and Jamia Sawyer did her part to make it four on Tuesday. The Salesian College Preparatory Pride strolled past the Monte Vista Mustangs with points to spare, taking the game 60-41 thanks in part to Sawyer, who posted 26 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points.
Another player making a difference was Oriannah Birden, who put up six points in addition to 11 rebounds and three blocks. That's the most blocks she has posted since back in December of 2023.
Monte Vista's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennedy Whyte, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 boards. Monte Vista is 2-1 when Whyte posts ten or more rebounds, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Naliyah Sefidi, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points and three steals.
Salesian College Preparatory's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Monte Vista, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-5.
Salesian College Preparatory will welcome St. Ignatius College Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salesian College Preparatory is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season. As for Monte Vista, they will take on Moreau Catholic in a tournament on Thursday.
