Baseball Recap: Scholars Guild Academy Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Scholars Guild Academy extended their postseason success on Friday against Cornerstone Prep Academy. They blew past the Cougars 11-1. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Ty Newton was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jacob Chupp and Will Pittman did most of the damage at the plate: Chupp went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Pittman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Pittman has become a key player for Scholars Guild Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Jackson Pittman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Scholars Guild Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cornerstone Prep Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Looking ahead, Scholars Guild Academy will challenge Pinecrest Academy on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 3.4, the Paladins 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Cornerstone Prep Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
