Basketball Recap: Escondido's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Escondido had lost three straight headed into Tuesday's contest, but Naomi Gutierrez didn't let it get to four. The Escondido Cougars secured a 35-29 W over the San Pasqual Golden Eagles on Tuesday thanks in part to Gutierrez, who posted 16 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Escondido's points.

When it comes to explaining why San Pasqual lost, don't look at Riley Hill. Despite the final result, she went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points.

Escondido's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for San Pasqual, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-5.

Escondido will challenge Ramona at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Escondido is facing Ramona at the right time seeing as Ramona is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for San Pasqual, they will face off against Valley Center at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Valley Center will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something San Pasqual surely won't give up without a fight.
