Baseball Recap: Rising Sun Find Success

Rising Sun won the last time they faced South Ripley and things went their way on Monday too. The Shiners had just enough and edged out the Raiders 4-3.

Weston Cumberworth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Rising Sun's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Cumberworth was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Rising Sun let Cooper Merica and Clinton Crandall run wild. Merica went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Crandall went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Crandall has posted since back in April.

Rising Sun now has a winning record of 10-9. As for South Ripley, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Rising Sun will square off against Jac-Cen-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Shiners' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Ripley, they will head out to take on Greensburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
