The power rankings have been shaken up after a frantic week teeming with triumph and disappointment. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Bemidji and St. Cloud Tech.
Can't Touch This
Even though Elk River was bested by Cambridge-Isanti 48 - 44 last week, Elk River's sophomore Carter Otto played one heck of a game. He earned two touchdowns and 261 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Otto as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
Look Out Below
The MaxPreps state rankings speculated that Hudson might lose last week, and the rankings were right on the money. There's no need to mince words: it lost to Appleton North, and it lost bad. The score wound up at 55 - 19. Hudson will need to regroup quickly to avoid another defeat since it is the underdog in its next matchup. The rough outing dragged it down 15 positions in the power rankings -- the largest fall of the week.
Movin on Up
The St. Croix Central offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It put the hurt on Adams-Friendship with a conclusive 42 - 0 victory. 42 is shaping up to be St. Croix Central's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Somerset the game before. The success catapulted St. Croix Central 15 spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Eden Prairie (2nd in the power rankings) and Edina (7th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Eden Prairie took its contest against Edina by a conclusive 21 - 0 score. Even if it didn't bump Eden Prairie up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
