Football Recap: La Cueva Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Farmington

La Cueva faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bears secured a 27-21 W over the Scorpions. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Scorpions: they've now won six in a row.

Isaiah Goree had an outrageously good game as he picked up 134 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those 134 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

La Cueva didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Farmington to a completion percentage of just 33.3%. The Bears weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 70.4%.

Despite the defeat, Farmington had strong showings from Rock Kalcich, who rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown, and Talon Stowell, who rushed for 119 yards.

The victory got La Cueva back to even at 2-2. As for Farmington, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Cueva will host West Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Farmington, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Scorpions will need to watch out since the Storm have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
