Bonita Vista suffers fourth straight loss on the road

Recap: Bonita Vista Barons vs. Leuzinger Olympians

The Bonita Vista Barons were the 80-67 winner over the Leuzinger Olympians when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Bonita Vista fell 51-41 to Leuzinger on Monday. While losing is never fun, Bonita Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while Leuzinger is ranked 32nd).

Several Barons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bayanai Cordova, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Mahliya Wilson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds.

It was another big night for Madison Watts, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks for Leuzinger. Watts is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Andrea Lopez, who scored 13 points along with two steals.

Bonita Vista's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-11. As for Leuzinger, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bonita Vista will take on Steele Canyon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Steele Canyon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Leuzinger, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Hawthorne at 5:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hawthorne is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
