Softball Recap: Washington-Wilkes Comes Up Short

Washington-Wilkes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-3 to the Oglethorpe County Patriots, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 on Tuesday.

Molly Dawson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Rylie Welborn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Washington-Wilkes' loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Oglethorpe County, their record now sits at 4-1.

Coming up, Washington-Wilkes will be playing at home against Elbert County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oglethorpe County, they will head out to face off against Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something Oglethorpe County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
