Basketball Recap: Oakmont Takes a Loss

Oakmont has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a blow against the Marysville Indians on Friday, falling 66-26. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-44 back in January.

Marysville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abigail Pietz led the charge by shooting 7-for-12 from long range and dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. Pietz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 49 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Demi Boykin, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Oakmont's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Marysville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakmont will host Wheatland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Marysville, they will welcome Center at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Marysville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Center likes a good challenge.
