Football Game Preview: St. Augustine Yellow Jackets vs. Mandarin Mustangs

St. Augustine is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mandarin is on a six-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Yellow Jackets will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, St. Augustine put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They blew past Ridgeview, posting a 66-6 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 52-6.

It was another big night for Brenton James, who threw for 253 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes. Julio Santiago was another key player, picking up 123 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

St. Augustine didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Reshad Medlock and Ka'Ron Robinson.

Meanwhile, Mandarin strolled past Oakleaf with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-14.

St. Augustine better keep an eye on Shaunqueze Foster. He was instrumental in Mandarin's win, rushing for 137 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Foster has posted since back in August. Brysen Wright made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Mandarin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 205 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

St. Augustine's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Mandarin, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

St. Augustine beat Mandarin 38-26 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
