Softball Game Preview: Montgomery County Wildcats vs. Elsberry Indians

The Montgomery County Wildcats will take on the Elsberry Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Montgomery County comes in on eight and Elsberry on four.

Montgomery County gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Community 8-7.

Reese Hill made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Sam Turner was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Gracie Cobb was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Montgomery County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Elsberry got the win against Mark Twain on Thursday by a conclusive 12-1. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Montgomery County's record is now 13-1. As for Elsberry, their record now sits at 6-1.

Montgomery County came up short against Elsberry when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
