Basketball Recap: El Camino Real Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, El Camino Real rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They secured a 54-50 W over the Shafter Generals.

It was another big night for Amirah Smith, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. El Camino Real is undefeated when Smith posts ten or more rebounds, but 10-14 otherwise. Taryn Watrin was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 boards.

El Camino Real is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-14 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to offensive boards: they averaged an imposing 12.4 offensive rebounds in those games compared to only 6.91 in the others. Shafter's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-7.

El Camino Real didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-45 win against Culver City on the 6th. Shafter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
