Papillion-LaVista faced Lincoln East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Monarchs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Monarchs have posted since September 6th.

Kaylee Huffman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maizey Carpenter was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Dibelka, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Papillion-LaVista is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln East, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-14.

Lincoln East wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-0 win against Omaha South on the 9th. Hopefully Papillion-LaVista paid attention to the Spartans' matchup: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
