Baseball Game Preview: Salt Fork Storm vs. Oakwood Comets

Salt Fork and Oakwood are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Storm will face off against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Salt Fork is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Monticello on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Sages. The game marked the first time this season in which the Storm were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Oakwood came up short against St. Joseph-Ogden on Tuesday, falling 22-4.

Collin Furry made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Xander Wilson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Salt Fork's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Oakwood, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Salt Fork was able to grind out a solid win over Oakwood when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Storm since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
