Basketball Game Preview: Tanque Verde Hawks vs. The Gregory School Hawks

Tanque Verde is 2-8 against The Gregory School since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tanque Verde Hawks will be playing at home against The Gregory School Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Tanque Verde took on Thatcher back in December of 2024. Tanque Verde narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Thatcher 75-72. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since December 1, 2023.

Rocco Haggard had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Those 24 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Dickens, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points.

Meanwhile, The Gregory School can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 64-20 victory over San Simon. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.

Tanque Verde is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for The Gregory School, they pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Tanque Verde suffered a grim 72-47 defeat to The Gregory School in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Can Tanque Verde avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
