Baseball Recap: Pike Central Chargers vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats
Pike Central had lost ten straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-19 to make it 11. They fell just short of the Mt. Vernon Wildcats by a score of 5-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 7-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.
Pike Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JJ Belmore, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Quentin Query was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Pike Central and Mt. Vernon are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Chargers will face off against Evansville Mater Dei at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Pike Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Vernon, they will challenge Heritage Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
