Basketball Recap: San Marcos Comes Up Short

San Marcos lost against Oxnard back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The San Marcos Royals lost 59-33 to the Oxnard Yellowjackets. The Royals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

Oxnard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Lumas led the charge by putting up 16 points along with six assists and five steals. Lumas has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Angell, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

San Marcos has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Oxnard, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Marcos will challenge Ventura at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ventura will roll in looking for their 22nd straight victory, something San Marcos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oxnard, they will face off against Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxnard is facing Pacifica at the right time seeing as Pacifica is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
