Softball Game Preview: Northfield Nighthawks vs. Denver North Vikings

The Northfield Nighthawks will take on the Denver North Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northfield knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Denver North likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Northfield got the win against Rangeview by a conclusive 13-7. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brielle Montoya spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Northfield got a massive performance out of Claire King, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Maci Molinary was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Denver North played against Vista PEAK Prep on Wednesday and won via forfeit.

Denver North is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Northfield, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.
