Baseball Game Preview: Comstock Park Panthers vs. Martin Clippers

The Comstock Park Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Martin Clippers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Comstock Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Comstock Park came out on top against Calvin Christian on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Panthers walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Squires.

Jameson East made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cale Wiers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Comstock Park's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Nyenhuis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Martin's offense. They came up short against Marcellus on Friday, falling 13-0. The Clippers just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Comstock Park's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Martin, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
