Basketball Recap: Florin Panthers vs. Valley Vikings
The Florin Panthers had to endure a 20-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 35-34 victory over Valley. Florin's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Zavanna Payne went supernova for Florin, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Payne is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Megan Sherman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Valley lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Jordyn Gibson. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points. It was the first time this season that Gibson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ximena Ramirez, who scored five points.
Florin's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-19. As for Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.
Florin will face off against the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Natomas will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
