Alabama high school football rankings: Showdown set between No. 1 Thompson, No. 2 Hoover

Warriors, Buccaneers each move to 9-0 with impressive, lopsided victories.

The stage is set. The top two teams in the MaxPreps Alabama computer football rankings each improved to 9-0 with impressive, lopsided victories last week and now face off Friday to close the regular season.

Thompson, the No. 1 squad, scored 42 points in the first half en route to a 49-21 win at then-fifth-ranked Oak Mountain. The Warriors got 223 yards passing and three touchdowns from Conner Harrell, who completed a 65-yard TD pass to Sam Reynolds on the game's first play. Tony Mitchell and Gregory Green added scoop-and-scores for the Warriors, according to al.com

Second-ranked Hoover got 120 yards rushing and two touchdowns by Jaylen Taylor and 175 yards passing and three more scores from Josh Lundy in a 48-21 win over Tuscaloosa County.

Thompson, which twice beat Hoover last year including in the Alabama state 7A semifinals, hosts Friday's game at 7 p.m.



Vestavia Hills made the biggest leap among the Top 25 teams moving up nine spots to No. 11 following a 32-7 win over Spain Park. Daphne moved into the Top 25 to No. 23 following a 34-0 victory over Murphy.
