Basketball Recap: Arcadia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Maranatha

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arcadia). They came out on top against the Maranatha Minutemen by a score of 53-40 on Wednesday. Given the Apaches' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while the Minutemen are ranked 739th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Arcadia to victory were Hailey Lam and Jolie Chen. Lam went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points, while Chen posted ten points. Lam is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Catelyn Chen was another key player, putting up nine points.

When it comes to explaining why Maranatha lost, don't look at Charlotte Yee. Despite the final result, she put up 20 points. That was a full 50% of Maranatha's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lori Derderian, who posted nine points.

The win made it two in a row for Arcadia and bumps their season record up to 4-2. As for Maranatha, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Arcadia is taking a road trip to face off against Gabrielino at 3:30 p.m. on December 20th. Gabrielino has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Maranatha, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-28 victory against Monrovia on the 19th.
