Soccer Game Preview: Orange Glen vs. Southwest SD

The Orange Glen Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Southwest SD Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Orange Glen's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Orange Glen fell victim to Escondido Charter and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 839th, while the Tigers are ranked 313th).

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last game, Southwest SD made sure to put some goals up on the board against Sweetwater on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Red Devils as they made off with a 5-2 win. The score was all tied up 2-2 at the break, but the Raiders were the better team in the second half.

Southwest SD is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those five contests. As for Orange Glen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1.

Orange Glen beat Southwest SD by a goal in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orange Glen since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
