Basketball Recap: Santa Maria Comes Up Short

Santa Maria was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 46-29 to the Atascadero Greyhounds. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-24 two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Santa Maria still got an impressive performance from Aaliyah Juarez, who posted 20 points and five rebounds. Juarez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Evelin Roman was another key player, putting up nine boards and six steals.

Santa Maria's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Atascadero, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Santa Maria will be playing at home against Pioneer Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Atascadero, they will take on Nipomo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Atascadero is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
