San Mateo had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 victory over the Lowell Cardinals. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bearcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Cardinals are ranked 194th).

San Mateo's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Lowell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

San Mateo will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Overfelt at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. San Mateo is facing Overfelt at the right time seeing as Overfelt is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Lowell will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Lowell surely won't give up without a fight.
