Softball Recap: Fountain-Fort Carson Wins Going Away Against Doherty

Fountain-Fort Carson's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Doherty Spartans as they made off with a 16-4 win. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 17-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kaleigha Holmes looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Danielle Cooley was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Janae Wyatt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Fountain-Fort Carson's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Doherty, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fountain-Fort Carson will host Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.29 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Doherty, they will face off against Rampart at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
