Softball Recap: Northgate Has No Trouble Against Villa Rica

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Northgate nor Villa Rica made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Vikings blew past the Wildcats 11-2. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 19 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Savannah Chitnis spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peyton Deraney was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Journey Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northgate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Northgate is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Villa Rica, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northgate beat the Wildcats by a score of 2-1 later that day.
